The following are the official rules for participating in the
international FidoNet SCUBA echo message base. In compliance
with FidoNet backbone policy, these rules will be posted once
a month by the area moderator.
Last Modified: 5/01/93
1) "Be happy..." Scuba diving is a FUN sport, and discussions
about diving should also be fun!
2) Message content must concern Scuba and related topics.
`Related' does not mean asking a question on how to fix your
car engine so that you can go diving on the weekend. Off
topic messages will be handled by the moderator.
3) Please remember that many of the readers of this echo area are
sport divers who do not have the necessary training and
experience to handle advanced specialty diving. Discussions
of mixed gas diving, extreme depth diving, and overhead
environment diving are certainly welcome in this area, but it
must be made clear that these forms of diving require
specialized training and experience. None of us wants the
responsibility of inadvertently influencing an inexperienced
diver into a potentially hazardous situation.
4) For reasons of liability and credibility: If you are a
professional (Nurse, Doctor, Lawyer, dive instructor, etc) and
you are offering your professional opinion/advice/facts,
please post your qualifications and a way to contact you
professionally should someone want further information.
5) `Agency bashing' is not allowed. Discussion of the pros and
cons of certification agencies is okay as long as it remains
a civilized discussion.
6) "Buy and Sell" type messages are okay but, before entering one
please keep in mind that this message base is International.
Advertisements from/for commercial enterprises are NOT
permitted. This is a FidoNet rule, not just one for this echo.
7) If you choose to quote an article from a magazine or
newspaper into this message area, please be aware that you
are very likely violating copyright laws. Technically, you
need to have written permission from both the author and the
publisher to reproduce their work in any form. Please limit
your quoting of someone else's published work so as not to
cause any problems.
8) Ensure that your real name is either in the FROM: position of
the message or signed at the end of the message.
9) High ASCII characters are discouraged. As these are needed
for some international languages and there is no Fido Policy
against them, disciplinary action will only be taken if they
are excessive and/or cause problems with a Scuba echo user's
computer.
10) Before replying to an `upsetting' message, inhale 1 breath of
Nitrous Oxide and 1 breath of Helium and read the message
again, out loud. `Flaming' and/or name calling of other users
for their warped opinions will not be tolerated. Period.
11) Let the moderator do the moderating. If you feel something
has been said which is out of line, please send a NetMail
message to me to voice your concerns. If you don't know what
NetMail is, please ask your Sysop to help you.
12) Please plan your dives, dive your plans, and ONLY dive within
the limits of your training and experience.
13) This policy will be enforced using the current FidoNet Policy
and the current FidoNet Echo Policy.
Dive SAFE!
