  2.    The following are the official rules for participating in the 
  3.    international FidoNet SCUBA echo message base.  In compliance 
  4.    with FidoNet backbone policy, these rules will be posted once 
  5.    a month by the area moderator.

  9.  
  10.    1)  "Be happy..."  Scuba diving is a FUN sport, and discussions
  11.        about diving should also be fun!
  12.  
  13.    2)  Message content must concern Scuba and related topics.  
  14.        `Related' does not mean asking a question on how to fix your 
  15.         car engine so that you can go diving on the weekend.  Off 
  16.         topic messages will be handled by the moderator.
  17.  
  18.    3)  Please remember that many of the readers of this echo area are 
  19.        sport divers who do not have the necessary training and 
  20.        experience to handle advanced specialty diving.  Discussions 
  21.        of mixed gas diving, extreme depth diving, and overhead 
  22.        environment diving are certainly welcome in this area, but it 
  23.        must be made clear that these forms of diving require 
  24.        specialized training and experience.  None of us wants the     
  25.        responsibility of inadvertently influencing an inexperienced 
  26.        diver into a potentially hazardous situation.

  28.    4)  For reasons of liability and credibility:  If you are a
  29.        professional (Nurse, Doctor, Lawyer, dive instructor, etc) and
  30.        you are offering your professional opinion/advice/facts, 
  31.        please post your qualifications and a way to contact you 
  32.        professionally should someone want further information.

  34.    5)  `Agency bashing' is not allowed.  Discussion of the pros and 
  35.        cons of certification agencies is okay as long as it remains 
  36.        a civilized discussion.

  38.    6)  "Buy and Sell" type messages are okay but, before entering one
  39.        please keep in mind that this message base is International.
  40.        Advertisements from/for commercial enterprises are NOT 
  41.        permitted.  This is a FidoNet rule, not just one for this echo.

  43.    7)  If you choose to quote an article from a magazine or 
  44.        newspaper into this message area, please be aware that you 
  45.        are very likely violating copyright laws.  Technically, you 
  46.        need to have written permission from both the author and the 
  47.        publisher to reproduce their work in any form.  Please limit 
  48.        your quoting of someone else's published work so as not to 
  49.        cause any problems.

  51.    8)  Ensure that your real name is either in the FROM: position of 
  52.        the message or signed at the end of the message.
  53.  
  54.    9)  High ASCII characters are discouraged.  As these are needed 
  55.        for some international languages and there is no Fido Policy 
  56.        against them, disciplinary action will only be taken if they 
  57.        are excessive and/or cause problems with a Scuba echo user's
  58.        computer.

  60.   10)  Before replying to an `upsetting' message, inhale 1 breath of
  61.        Nitrous Oxide and 1 breath of Helium and read the message 
  62.        again, out loud.  `Flaming' and/or name calling of other users 
  63.        for their warped opinions will not be tolerated.  Period.

  65.   11)  Let the moderator do the moderating.  If you feel something 
  66.        has been said which is out of line, please send a NetMail 
  67.        message to me to voice your concerns.  If you don't know what 
  68.        NetMail is, please ask your Sysop to help you.

  70.   12)  Please plan your dives, dive your plans, and ONLY dive within
  71.        the limits of your training and experience.

  73.   13)  This policy will be enforced using the current FidoNet Policy 
  74.        and the current FidoNet Echo Policy.
